A lot of people want to create a menu item that has other menu items under it in a drop down, but the top menu item has nothing to link to.
Typically drop downs are added to the menu when you create a page, then add sub-pages under it. However, there is not always any content to add to that main "parent" page. But you still want a drop down menu grouped together.
This can be done, but it means changing to a manually created menu. We have a detailed look at using the Manual Menus here:
Adding an Empty Link
Now that you have your custom menu setup, we want to add an empty top menu item.
First, though, you need to include a URL. If you try to add a menu item without a link it will do nothing. So type in any URL for now and add it to the menu.
You should now see a screen something like this, with the new menu item added.
If you look at the new menu item, it says "Custom" and has a little arrow to the right side. Clicking that arrow opens the menu item so you can customize it.
Delete the URL there and hit the "Save Menu" button. You will now have an "empty" link and can add other links under it.
