Contact Form, Alter Alignment?

Hi,

I'm having an issue where I cannot get the contact form to appear the way I want it to within the photography blogsites layout. First, no matter what I do, the form itself is always centered, but I'd like to have it aligned right, with the remainder of the text. I also wanted the watermark text within the fields to be semi-grey, like it is on my current site.

I have included links to each of the sites, so you can see what it looks like through Photography Blogsites, versus my current page. The two forms are identical within the "Contact-7" form, and identical within the code for the page itself.

Thanks!

I forgot to add that even though I have the code correct for the "watermark" text in the photographyblogsites page, it doesn't behave like "watermark" text, where I disappears when the user selects the text field.

There are two different aspects to what is happening at the old site that you want to match,

The basic look would be controlled by CSS. So while the plugin and code are exactly the same, the style is not. This is pretty easy to fix if you can find the CSS in your old site that controls those sections. You can copy and paste that into "BlogSite Options->Style Options->Custom CSS".

The helper text that disappears when you start typing is most likely controlled by javascript. That could be in another plugin, or in a Contact Form 7 module, or just a custom part of that theme.

If you can isolate what it was we can look into adding it. Or you could add this as a feature request in the feature suggestion area.

I'm fairly certain by reading through the Contact Form 7 FAQ and Docs that the "watermark" tag within the Contact Form 7 code actually creates the disappearing text: http://contactform7.com/blog/2009/11/18/text-fields/ - the inclusion of the "watermark" tag uses "the value of the watermark text instead of as default value." Is this something you can look into and try to figure out why it's not behaving properly?

I don't mind if it looks a little different on here (in terms of general style - not being too comfortable with CSS I'd be worried about messing something up!), but I cannot get the form to align anything other than center. I would like it aligned left. Is this something that can be done? (I've tried using the HTML portion of the page editor to accomplish this to no avail).

Ahh.. okay. Thanks for the link.

This sounds like a feature in the newer version of the plugin which we have nor upgraded to yet.

We will look into the new version and add if we can. It sounds like they changed the way contact forms are saved so hopefully they made it backwards compatible or it could erase everyone's forms.

Thanks for the link. :)

Glad to hear that we know why it's happening! I certainly hope that the new version can be installed, it's a really great feature! I look forward to hearing back about this.

Thanks for all your help!

Quick update here...

We have tested the new version on our beta site and it upgrades perfectly!

We have a whole set of new features to release next week and will be including the contact form upgrade as part of it all.

Thanks for the headsup!

Any idea when the updates are going to go live? Will we be notified of all the updates and new features?

There will definitely be a notice (sortof). We are releasing a major new feature, most likely over the coming weekend. We will probably not mention the contact form upgrade as it is expected to be totally seamless for most people.

So watch for the announcement about "SnapShots" and the contact form upgrade will be included in that.
