Additional Widget Area at the top of Macchiato Full Page

In the Macchiato theme I love the full page layout option for the pictures but it's really hard to lose the sidebar options (archives list, search box, etc). I realize that some of these can be put back in at widgets area at the bottom of the page but for the important things like a search bar, it's hard to have it at the end of all the scrolling and the widget area becomes full and a bit cluttered for my liking with everything down there. I'm wondering if there's any possibility of getting an optional widget area at the top of the blog or another possible win-win solution for full page layout without sacrificing the search bar/archives/twitter/ and/or follow me features?

I like this idea. We are already looking at the possibility of adding an optional menu at the top and adding optional thumbnail images when viewing the excerpts on a blog. We add all of this at the same time and bring some new toys to the blog area.
